What is a Content Management System?

There are thousands of new Intranet and Internet pages being published on a daily basis. Organisation's websites are growing rapidly in order to enhance their Internet presence and keep up with competitors. The growth of your website inevitably brings about challenges in how to create, organise and control content and ensure consistent and accurate access to your information.

This need for content management solutions has been answered in the form of Content Management Systems (CMS), which have been developed in various forms by many companies in the industry. Demand is constantly increasing, and thus the Content Management Systems revolution is going from strength to strength and is fundamentally changing the way organisations plan, develop and maintain their internet presence.

There are several major benefits that a well designed and implemented Content Management System can bring to an organisation:

  1. Reduces operational costs for critical e-business infrastructure.
  2. Relieves the burden of content management responsibilities away from technical staff.
  3. Brings total control and order to the website(s).
  4. Enables effective collaboration between employees.
  5. New web based projects can be implemented more efficiently.

Incutio were keen to plan and develop a product that would not be just another off-the-shelf CMS solution, but a system that could be adapted to suit each client's needs. We have produced a user friendly product that can drive multiple internet, intranet and extranet websites.

Our Product: Fabric Enterprise CMS

Fabric is an application framework, developed in PHP, that controls business applications. It is a user and group management tools package, providing workflow and business process mechanisms within a single framework. The system is designed to allow people to assume different roles which in turn reflect what they can and can't do within a site and how the workflow works.

The system has been in constant development since 2003 and the actual source value has been appraised at around $5.5m. Fabric can be used to manage a variety of systems and thus is much more than a CMS, but rather a multi-purpose business solutions package. Its capabilites include:

  • Content Management
  • Customer Relationship Management
  • Intranets
  • Extranets
  • Project Management
  • User profiling
  • Community features

Fabric takes approximately three months to set up, integrate content and train a number of users. It is licensed on a yearly basis and has a buy-in fee. Incutio manage the system throughout including hosting. This reduces the costs significantly for us and the end-client as we maintain servers in a central location.

The main feature of Fabric is the mechanisms it uses to control and deliver content and information to an unlimited number of users of a whole hierarchy of staff. The result is a more efficient and user friendly site and a reduction of operational costs and overheads for your online infrastructure. We have installed and customised Fabric for several clients who have subsequently enjoyed an excellent return on investment.

What makes Fabric different to other CMS?

We analyse client's individual needs and customise Fabric's implementation onto the system in a way in which best suits each client's requirements. The system is also flexible in its approach to managing permissions, allowing you control your site in a way that fits in with the structure of your organisation.

2. Workflow Permissions - Fabric is powered by a powerful permissions system allow your website to reflects the structure of your organisation, rather than forcing you to adapt your thinking when creating your site. Users at different levels would be allocated areas in which they can update and publish content.

3. Accessibility - Fabric was created from the beginning with accessibility in mind. The system helps you create and maintain your site whilst adhering to established web standards.
